Torres Leads Dons To Mt. SAC Cross Country Title

WALNUT, CA -
The Santa Ana College men' cross country team, paced by freshman Jersain Torres' third-place finish, edged host Mt. San Antonio College, to capture to the 2004 Mt. San Antonio College Cross Country Invitational title, Friday.

Torres was the Dons top finisher completing the course in 21:42 and trailed only Southwestern College's Babev Wagnew (20:35) and Glendale College's (AZ) Norbert Robles (21:27) for the individual title.

Santa Ana scored 108 points to Mt. San Antonio's 114 to claim the team title followed by Modesto Junior College (119), El Camino College (129) and Southwestern College (133) who rounded out the top five team finishers.

Edmundo Camparan finished second for the Dons and 12th overall with a time of 22:22 while Orlando Chavez (22:41) and Luis Pimienta (22:46) finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Orlando Lucero rounded out Santa Ana Ana's top five placing 51st in a time of 23:41.

Next: Santa Ana will take part in the Orange Empire Conference Championships set for Saturday, October 30 at 10 a.m. the OEC Championships will be hosted by Riverside Community College on its Moreno Valley campus.

Santa Ana Finishes Second At OEC Preview Meet

RIVERSIDE, CA -
Santa Ana College finished second behind Orange Coast College in the men's portion of the Orange Empire Conference Cross Country Preview Meet hosted by Riverside Community College on its Moreno Valley campus.

Orange Coast won the meet with 16 points followed by Santa Ana College, 59; Riverside College, 76; Santiago Canyon College, 105; Saddleback College, 150; Fullerton College, 163; and Golden West, 176.

Jersain Torres and Edmundo Comparan led the Dons with their seventh- and eight-place finishes, respectively. Torres completed the four-mile course in 22:10.5 while Comparan edged out Saddleback's Kyle Hughes for eighth with a time of 22:26.4. Santa Ana's Luis Pimenta finished just two spots in back of Comparan in 10th (22:37.3) followed by Orlando Chavez and Orlando Lucero who finished 13th (23:08.7) and 21st (23:51.6).

Orange Coast's Jose Casillas won the meet with a time of 20:53.5.

Next: Santa Ana will compete in the Mt. San Antonio Cross Country Invitational set for 10 a.m. on Friday, October 15.
