Dons Finish 8th at Howard Brubaker Invitational
ORANGE, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's cross country team finished in eighth place with a team score of 237 at the 2007 Howard Brubaker Invitational SoCal Preview Meet held at Irvine Park. Attended by 33 colleges and 298 runners, the four-mile race represented the largest cross country meet in community college history.
Sophomore Jersain Torres (Katella HS) finished third overall with an impressive time of 20:39 to lead the Dons. Sophomore Corey Brown (Loara HS) made a 36-second improvement on his personal best time to finish in 23rd place overall with a time of 21:26. Sophomore Ruben Gonzalez (Santiago HS) finished in 64th place (22:10.70, 63 points), freshman Edgar Aguilar (Santa Ana HS) finished in 68th place (22:14.60, 67 points) and Irvin Malacara finished in 89th place (22:34.90, 81 points) to round out the scoring for SAC.
Other finishers for the Dons included sophomore Sam Juliano (Tustin HS) in 112th place (22:54.30), Noe Aguirre in 119th place (23:00.00), freshman Joe Perez (Valencia HS) in 159th place (23:46.50), freshman Luis Orozco (Santa Ana HS) in 197th place (24:29.80), freshman Martin Tellez (Tustin HS) in 202nd place (24:34.30) and sophomore Juan Mejia (Santiago HS) in 217th place (25:14.50).
College of the Canyon's Alfredo Coronado crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 20:15.20 to win the men's individual title. The Cougars also took home team honors with 83-points as their top-five runners finished in an average time of 21:02.72.
The Dons return to action on Friday, Oct. 12 to compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational in Walnut, CA. Race time is set to begin at 10 a.m. |
