Fourth-Ranked Riverside Downs Santa Ana, 20-8

SANTA ANA, CA
– Fourth-ranked Riverside Community College bolted to a 7-1 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Tigers downed host-Santa Ana College, 20-8, in Orange Empire Conference men's water polo action, Wednesday.

Ten different Riverside players recorded goals in the contest led by Mike Looy who scored a game-high four times. Kevin Swanberg and Buddy Olds added three goals apiece while Adam Canady, Steven Ungerer and Jasper Huang each scored twice. Goalie Daniel Bauerlein had a team-high six saves for the Tigers while Mike Robertson finished with five.

Santa Ana , led by Chris Tapia's (Santa Ana HS) four second-quarter goals, made it 11-7 at intermission before the Tigers outscored the Dons 9-1 in the second half to pull away for the win. Tapia finished with four goals followed by Chris Colchado (Saddleback HS), Phil Storey (Pacifica HS), Edgar Palacios (Santa Ana HS) and Danny Vega (Saddleback HS) who each scored a goal. Goalie Carlos Aguilar had a game-high seven saves for the Dons.

The loss drops Santa Ana to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the OEC while Riverside improves to 15-5 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Next: Santa Ana will complete the Orange Empire Conference portion of its schedule next Wednesday, October 20 when the Dons travel to Costa Mesa to face Orange Coast at 3 p.m.

Tapia Scores Seven Goals In Santa Ana's 15-10 Win

SANTA ANA, CA
– Christian Tapia (Santa Ana HS) scored seven goals and assisted on five others as the Santa Ana College men's water polo team improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) with a 15-10 win over visiting Saddleback College, Wednesday.

Christian Tapia scored five of Santa Ana 's first seven goals as the Dons raced to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Saddleback was held scoreless until Joe Vick scored the Gauchos first goal with 2:47 remaining in the second quarter.

Chris Colchado (Saddleback HS) finished with four goals while Tim McCord (Marina HS), Edgar Palacios (Santa Ana HS), Danny Vega (Saddleback HS) and Alex Tapia (Santa Ana HS) each added one goal apiece for the Dons in the win. Santa Ana goalkeeper Carlos Aguilar (Santa Ana HS) recorded 13 saves and six steals to record his second consecutive win.

Brad Corr led Saddleback with four goals followed by Chris Savolskis who had three goals and Vick, Brandon Williams and Anthony Terzo who each had one for the Gauchos.

Next: Santa Ana will travel to Fullerton College on Wednesday, October 6 to face the Hornets in an OEC men's water polo match set to start at 3 p.m.
