SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's water polo team finished the Saddleback Tournament with a 1-3 record getting its first win of the season in a 16-7 victory over Santa Monica College.
The Dons opened the tournament against host Saddleback College. The Gauchos jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter before opening the game up in the second to take a 9-4 lead into the half.
The Dons stuck with Saddleback in the second half but were unable to overcome the early deficit as they lost 14-7. Daniel Nagy led the Dons with five goals in the match.
Nagy continued his hot play in the second game as the Dons returned to the pool later in the afternoon to take on Santa Monica College. Nagy scored five goals for the second straight game and Nelson Goossens added four goals with Eli Martinez chipping in three goals and Anthony Lopez two as the Dons defeated Santa Monica 16-7.
The Dons offense cooled off on the second day of the tournament as they managed only five goals in two games. Modesto bested SAC 12-3 in the morning game before El Camino finished the Dons tournament by a final score of 10-2.
Nagy finished the tournament with 11 goals in four games for the Dons and Erick Lopez made 43 saves while allowing 43 goals at goalkeeper in the tournament. |
