Dons Drop Close Match to Orange Coast 14-12

SANTA ANA, CA
– The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's water polo team dropped a close match to visiting Orange Coast College (OCC) 14-12 in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) match Wednesday afternoon at the SAC Pool.

The Pirates (10-4, 3-1 OEC) opened the match on a 4-0 run, but the Dons (11-16, 0-4 OEC) cut the lead to 5-4 at the end of the first quarter. OCC led 8-7 at halftime and 10-9 at the end of the third quarter and would eventually take a four goal lead in the fourth quarter. SAC rallied to pull within two goals, but the Pirates held on for the victory.

Paden Mitchell (Villa Park HS) led SAC offensively with four goals. Chris Roman (Saddleback HS) finished with three goals for the Dons, followed by Alejandro Aguilera (Saddleback HS) and David Ta (Temple City HS) who each finished with two goals. Goalkeeper Mario Ruiz (Mater Dei HS) finished with 12 saves for SAC in the loss.

Nick Martinazzi finished with four goals to lead the Pirates. Kevin Hardesty made nine saves in goal for OCC.
