Three Dons Won Individual OEC Championships
SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College men's track and field team finished in fourth place with 72 points at the 2008 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships at Orange Coast College.
Sophomore Jersain Torres (Katella HS) led the Dons as he took first place in the men's 1500 meter and 5000 meter runs to pick up 20 points. Torres ran to a time of 3:58.78 in the 1500 meters and crossed the finish line with a time of 15:40.56 in the 5000.
Ryan Gleason (Los Amigos HS) took the top spot in the hammer throw. The Dons record-holder claimed the conference championship with a distance of 157'. The final conference champion for the Dons was Alfonso Leon (Santa Ana HS) who won the 3,000M steeplechase with a time of 9:56.74.
Sophomore Corey Brown (Loara HS) picked up eight points as he finished second in the men's 10,000 meter run with a time of 33:34.26, while the Dons earned five points in the 4x100 meter relay as Jason McCalope (Santa Ana HS), Mike Davis (Tustin HS), Darren Tom (Santiago HS) and Juan Mejia (Anaheim HS) ran to a time of 44.64, good for a fourth place finish. |
