Dons Open Conference with 6-3 Win over Riverside

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's soccer team avenged its only loss in conference play last year with a 6-3 victory over Riverside College (RCC) in the Orange Empire Conference opener.

The Dons jumped on the Tigers early when Koichi Muneishi took a pass from Richard Rivera (University HS) at the top of the box and beat RCC's keeper to give SAC the 1-0 lead.

Riverside answered just two minutes later to tie the game and later took a 2-1 lead in the 22nd minute. Daniel Ruiz (Loara HS) tied the game six minutes later with Quiroga Campos (Estancia HS) getting the assist.

Ruiz scored his second goal of the game late in the first half, this time on a pass from Felix Rosales (Saddleback HS) to give the Dons a 3-2 lead. Julian Cardenas (Loara HS) extended SAC's lead to 4-2 when he scored on a direct kick just outside of the box.

Ruiz added another goal in the 65th minute before RCC cut the lead to 5-3 in the 73rd minute. The scoring ended in the 81st minute when Ruiz took a long pass from Felipe Gonzalez (Valencia HS) and beat the Tigers' goalkeeper for his fourth goal of the game.

IVan Rodriguez (Centennial HS) started the game for SAC at keeper and made four saves while allowing all three goals. Jorge Sanchez (Foothill HS) didn't face a single shot as he played the final eight minutes in relief.
