SANTA ANA, CA - The last time the Santa Ana College men's soccer team faced Santiago Canyon College the Hawks came away with their first win over the Dons in the history of the rivalry.
Today, the Dons were able to avenge the loss with a commanding 7-1 win over the visiting Hawks in an Orange Empire Conference match. The Dons (9-4-4, 7-1-2) also extended their win streak to six games in the process.
Adrian Negrete scored the first goal for the Dons when Jose Ramos sent a long pass in that found Negrete who buried a shot in the opposite corner. Daniel Ruiz set up Cesar Silva for the Dons second goal of the game.
Marco Ramirez put the Dons up 3-0 on a penalty kick before Silva sent a long pass over the Hawks defense freeing Gerzon Blanco who scored to make it a 4-0 game heading into the half.
Daniel Ruiz was credited with the game's fifth goal of the game when a Santiago Canyon defender attempted to kick the ball out of the box and scored on his own goal.
Negrete set up the next two goals for the Dons, first finding Cesar Silva to put the Dons up 6-0 and then setting up Ruiz for the Dons seventh goal. Sam Morales broke up the shutout for SCC in the 68th minute.
Felipe Miranda played the first half in goal making two saves before being relieved by Adrian Garcia who made one save while allowing one goal.
