Santa Ana Defeats Golden West on a Late Penalty Kick

SANTA ANA , CA – A penalty kick during injury time gave Santa Ana College's (SAC) men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over visiting Golden West College who was the only team in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) to give the Dons a loss in conference play.

Luis Guerra (Santiago HS) opened the scoring for the Dons in the second half when he took a pass from Marco Trejo (Century HS) and buried a shot into the back of the net giving SAC a 1-0 lead in the 61 st minute.

Golden West tied the game at 1-1 in the 78 th minute on a penalty kick by Ricky Casillas. The game appeared to be headed for a tie before Trejo was fouled in the box setting up the penalty kick. Cesar Nava, who leads the conference in scoring, took the penalty kick for the Dons and scored giving SAC a 2-1 victory.

The victory keeps the Dons in a tie for first place with Irvine Valley College who defeated Cypress today.
