Santa Ana Blanks Irvine Valley 2-0

SANTA ANA , CA – Santa Ana College 's (SAC) men's soccer team came into today's game against Irvine Valley College (IVC) trailing the Lasers by one game. By the end of the game, the Dons (10-3-3, 5-1-1) moved into a tie with the Lasers (9-3-2, 5-1-1) for first place in the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 2-0 victory.

The first half was an even battle throughout with neither team able to take control. IVC had one opportunity in the first half but held the ball too long and the Dons were able to recover and clear the ball out of the zone. Both teams managed only two shots apiece in the half and the score remained 0-0 at half time.

SAC came out strong in the second half and scored 12 minutes into the half when Luis Guerra (Santiago HS) got past the defense and lightly kicked the ball past the goalie as he tried to steal the ball from Guerra. One goal was enough for Julian Hernandez who played the entire game and earned a shut out while making two saves.

Marco Cruz (Valley HS) added a security goal late in the second half when he was able to kick in a rebound off of a corner kick by Ricardo Juarez (Bolsa Grande HS) to seal the game for the Dons at 2-0.
