True, Jones and Johnson Advance to State Finals
SAN JACINTO, CA - Santa Ana College (SAC) golfers Garrett True (Temescal Canyon HS), Trevor Jones and Daren Johnson (Bishop Amat HS) were among the top six individual finishers at the 2008 Southern California Community College Championships at the par-72 Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto. The trio has qualified to play in the California State Community College Championship on May 12 at the SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.
True shot a 36-hole total of 141 (69-72) to finish in a tie for second place as he finished one shot behind medalist John San Juan of Cypress College (140, 69-71). Jones finished in a tie for third place at 142 (68-74), while Johnson finished in a four-way tie for fourth place with a 143 (71-72).
As a team, the Dons finished in sixth place with a score of 752 (373-379). Other individual results for SAC included Florencio Anadon (Republica Argentina HS) at 161 (80-81), David Piriano at 165 (85-80) and James Ybarra at 172 (91-81).
Moorpark College took home first place honors with a total team round of 735. College of the Canyons, Cypress College and Saddleback College finished in a tie for second place at 741. The top four teams qualify to play in the state championship round, while the top six individual scores not from those teams also qualified to advance. |
