SAC Unable to Finish Comeback; Lose Home Opener

SANTA ANA, CA -
The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's basketball team lost to visiting Pasadena City College (PCC) 74-71 in the final game of the Pasadena/Santa Ana Match up. The loss drops the Dons to 0-2 on the season while Pasadena improves to 4-1.

The Dons opened the game with a 6-0 run and continued to build on their early lead. They held the lead for the first 13 minutes of the game before a Lancers three-pointer with just over seven minutes left put PCC up 21-20.

The two teams traded the lead for the remainder of the half with SAC taking a 41-10 lead into halftime. Both teams shot the ball extremely well in the first half with the Dons shooting 50% and the Lancers shooting 51.6% for the half.

Corey Caston scored the first basket of the second half, a three-pointer that put PCC up 43-41. The Lancers would not surrender the lead after that. PCC extended its lead to 63-48 halfway through the second half.

The Dons battled back late and D'Andre Denan hit a three-pointer with 1:30 left in the game to pull SAC within one point at 72-71. However, the Dons were unable to score again as they went on to lose the game 74-71.

Tyler Averill scored a game-high 26 points (9-for-15 shooting) for the Dons with eight rebounds. Ian Parks added 19 points for SAC with a game-high 16 rebounds.
