David Breig
Head Coach

Dave Breig begins his fifth season at the helm of the Santa Ana College men’s
basketball program. He led the Dons to a 25-9 record and a California Community College Southern California Regional Playoff berth in 2006-07.
Breig, who served as the Dons' head coach on a part-time basis for two seasons, was hired as a full-time exercise science instructor and head men's basketball coach in April 2005.
Breig, who brings a successful high school head
coaching ledger and vast knowledge of the community college ranks.
Prior to coming to Santa Ana the second-year head coach was the head boys’ basketball
coach at Mayfair High School for the
past eight seasons (1995-2003), where he continues
to teach full-time.
During his tenure at Mayfair, Breig compiled a phenomenal 162-38
(.810) overall won-lost record and helped transform
the prep program into one of the best in the state by capturing five Suburban
League crowns, sending six players to National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I programs, and
playing in three Southern Section (CIF-SS) championship
games, including a CIF-SS Division II-A championship in 1999.
Breig has roots as a player in the community college
system, having played the 1986-87 campaign playing
for the Cerritos College Falcons in Norwalk before
transferring to Seattle Pacific University where he
played for three seasons (1987-88 through 1989-90).
As a coach, he was a graduate assistant at Seattle
Pacific (1990-91) and assistant coach at Mayfair H.S.
(1992-93), Los Alamitos H.S. (1993-94), and Irvine
Valley College (1994-95) before being named to take
over the reins as Mayfair’s head coach in 1995.
Breig received his associate's degree from Cerritos College, his bachelor's degree in business management from Seattle Pacific University and his master's degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton. |
