David Breig
Head Coach
2nd year
Embarking on his second season at the helm of the Santa Ana College men’s
basketball program is Dave Breig, who brings a successful high school head
coaching ledger and vast knowledge of the community college ranks.
Last year Breig guide the Dons to a 12-14 overall record and a 6-8 mark in the always tough Orange Empire Conference.
Prior to coming to Santa Ana the second-year head coach was the head boys’ basketball
coach at Mayfair High School for the
past eight seasons (1995-2003), where he continues
to teach full-time.
During his tenure at Mayfair, Breig compiled a phenomenal 162-38
(.810) overall won-lost record and helped transform
the prep program into one of the best in the state by capturing five Suburban
League crowns, sending six players to National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I programs, and
playing in three Southern Section (CIF-SS) championship
games, including a CIF-SS Division II-A championship in 1999.
Breig has roots as a player in the community college
system, having played the 1986-87 campaign playing
for the Cerritos College Falcons in Norwalk before
transferring to Seattle Pacific University where he
played for three seasons (1987-88 through 1989-90).
As a coach, he was a graduate assistant at Seattle
Pacific (1990-91) and assistant coach at Mayfair H.S.
(1992-93), Los Alamitos H.S. (1993-94), and Irvine
Valley College (1994-95) before being named to take
over the reins as Mayfair’s head coach in 1995. |
