Santa Ana Lets Lead Slip Away In OEC Opener

RIVERSIDE, CA -
Santa Ana College let a 12-point second-half lead slip away as Riverside College rallied for a 63-56 win in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams. The loss drops the Dons to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference while the Tigers improve to 6-10 overall and 1-0 in the league.

With 12 minutes to go, Santa Ana led 44-32 but Riverside used a 31-12 run to notch the come-from-behind win. Riverside sophomore Shamont Brown hit a three-pointer with 3:02 remaining to giving the Tigers the lead for good at
54-52.

Darrell Jenkins was 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free throw line to finish with a game-high 16 for the Dons. Sophomore forward Nedim Pajevic was also in double figures with 14.

Riverside's Michael Lewis led all scorers with 20 points, behind six three pointers. Lewis was followed by Shawnt Brown who finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Next: Santa Ana will try and avenge a 75-50 loss to Orange Coast College when the two teams square off on the Pirates home court in an Orange Empire Conference game set for Friday, January 7 at 5:30.
