Santa Ana Loses Close Game to Irvine Valley
SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College (SAC) held a 10-point half time lead but were unable to hold on, despite a late rally, as they lost to visiting Irvine Valley College (IVC) in an Orange Empire Conference men's basketball game.
The two teams traded the lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half before SAC started to pull away in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 44-34 lead at half time.
IVC came back and tied the game at 56-56 seven minutes into the second half and eventually took the lead for good at 65-63. After the Lasers pulled ahead with a 10-point lead SAC battled back and was within two points in the final minute. However, IVC hit all six of its free throws in the final minute to seal the victory at 83-79. IVC hit 81% of its free throws while SAC was only able to hit 61%.
Mike Hernandez (Whittier HS) and James Silvie (Mayfair HS) led the Dons in scoring with 15 points apiece. D'Andre Denan was the only other Don in double digits, scoring 14 points in the loss.
