Santa Ana Loses to Irvine Valley at Home

SANTA ANA, CA -
The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's basketball team lost to visiting Irvine Valley College (IVC) 92-73 in an Orange Empire Conference match. The loss drops the Dons to 9-12 on the season and 1-2 in conference.

IVC jumped out to an early 5-0 lead to start the game but the Dons were able close the gap. The Lasers held a 20-15 lead with just over 11 minutes left in the half when they went on an 11-0 run to extend their lead to 31-15. IVC closed out the half with a 43-26 lead.

Tyre Thompson (Centennial HS) opened the second half with two three-point baskets followed by a lay-up by IVC. Thompson grabbed a long rebound off a missed three-point shot by the Lasers and threw an alley-oop to Cartier Carter (Vista Del Lago HS) who slammed the ball and cut the IVC lead to 45-36.

The Dons were within 10 points with just over 10 minutes remaining but could not get any closer as the Lasers pulled away for the 92-73 victory.

Thompson led SAC in defeat with 27 points, making 5-of-9 three-point shots. Carter added 16 points and David Brandon (Long Beach Poly HS) scored 15 points.
