Saddleback Keeps Santa Ana Winless In OEC Play
SANTA ANA, CA - Tremaine Ford-Townsend scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Saddleback College (20-7, 5-5) kept Santa Ana College winless in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) men's basketball action with a 75-67 win, Wednesday. The Dons (9-19, 0-9) have dropped 10 straight including nine in league play.
Ford-Townsend was one of four Gauchos to score in double figures. Carlton Arnwine also scored 19 for the Gauchos followed by Gerard Anderson and Lamont Morgan who each added 13.
Saddleback jumped out to a 17-7 lead midway through the first half courtesy of cold shooting by the Dons. Santa Ana connected on just 3 of 15 from the field during the Gauchos run before
Brandt Bangs came off the bench to score 14 straight points to put the Dons up 21-17 with nine minutes left in the half. Bangs drained four consecutive three-pointers and made 2 of 3 free throws after being fouled on his fifth attempt. The sophomore guard finished with a game-high 19 while Matt Goodloe and Terrence Hundley were also in double figure for Santa Ana with 15 apiece.
The Gauchos overcame a 31-29 halftime deficit by outscoring the Dons,
46-36, in the second half to come away with the win.
Saddleback dominated the boards outrebounding Santa Ana, 47-34, and was the beneficiary of 14 more free throw attempts. The Guachos were 21 of 32 (65.6 percent) at the charity stripe while the Dons were just 12 of 18 (66.7 percent).
