Santa Ana's Rally Falls Short Against Riverside
SANTA ANA, CA - Angel Alamo scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the visiting Riverside Community College (16-6, 1-2) held on for a 64-60 win over Santa Ana College in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) men's basketball action, Wednesday. The eighth-ranked Tigers shot 65 percent in the first half connecting on 15 of 23 from the field to take a 12-point halftime lead, 38-26, behind Alamo and J.R. Reese who scored 13 of his 15 points in opening 20 minutes.
Santa Ana rallied in the second half outscoring Riverside, 34-26, behind Sean Luecke and Terrence Hundley who combined for 23 of the Dons' 34 second-half points. Luecke scored 14 in the period to finished with a game-high 21. The freshman forward connected on 8 of 13 from the field and 5 of 10 at the free throw line. Hundley added 17 for the Dons on 7 of 16 shooting.
The Tigers had three players scoring in double digits led by Alamo and Reese who finished with 18 and 15, respectively. Trayvon Williams added 11 for Riverside who won its first OEC game of the season.
The Dons cut the Tigers' lead to just three, 63-60, with 41 seconds remaining on a Luecke layup, but couldn't get any closer.
Despite shooting just 36 percent (8 of 22) in the second half the Tigers shot 51 percent (23 of 45) for the game while the Dons made 50 percent (14 of 28) of their shots in the second half and finished the game 24 of 55 from the field (43.6 percent).
