Twelve Players Named to All-Mission Conference Team

SANTA ANA , CA – The Santa Ana College (SAC) football team placed 12 players on the All-Mission Conference National Division teams highlighted by sophomores Kamuran Ayas (center/Garden Grove HS) and Spencer Gasu (defensive tackle/Valencia HS) and freshman Matt Cardenas (wide receiver/El Dorado HS) who were named to the All-Conference First-Team. Cardenas was also named to the All-Mission Conference Second-Team as a kick returner for SAC in 2007.

Other Dons receiving Second-Team honors included sophomores Mark Iddins (quarterback/Kamiak HS), Sam Stewart (defensive end/Tustin HS), Al Vargas (linebacker/Mater Dei HS) and Jeffrey Cross (cornerback/Salesain HS). Freshmen named to the Second-Team included Bryson Kelly (running back/Kamiak HS), Cameron Sprecher (tight end/Tustin HS), Robert Monroe (offensive tackle/Western HS) and Brian Bell (defensive end/Tustin HS).

Cardenas led SAC with 47 receptions, 860 receiving yards and eight touchdowns and finished first in the conference with an 18.3 yards per catch average. He finished third in the Mission Conference with 95.6 receiving yards per game and tied for fourth in touchdown receptions. Cardenas also finished second in the conference with an average of 30-yards per kickoff return. Gasu finished the season with 24 tackles, seven tackles for a loss and one sack.
