Santa Ana Defeats Pasadena with Late Field Goal

SANTA ANA, CA – In one of the most exciting games, the Santa Ana College (SAC) football team overcame an early 40-7 deficit to come from behind and defeat visiting Pasadena City College (PCC) 65-64.

The Dons set nine school records in the game that was decided by a 32-yard field goal by Nick Canney (Canyon HS) with 13 seconds remaining in the game. The field goal gave SAC its only lead of the game and it came when it counted the most.

Mark Iddins (Kamiak HS) set two individual game records in the victory for most yards passing (407) and most completions (31). Matt Cardenas, who set the school record for most yards receiving (244) last week against Riverside set the record for most touchdown receptions with four.

The Dons set six team game records for most points scored by both teams (129), most passing yards (509), most passes completed (33), most points scored by an opponent (64), most passing yards by an opponent (474) and most total yards by an opponent (688).

Along with his four touchdown grabs, Cardenas had 140 yards on eight catches while teammate R.J. Koch had 11 catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Iddins finished the game 31-for-46 passing for 407 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Ethan Haller replaced Iddins at quarterback and had two completions, both for touchdowns. The first was a 50-yard pass to Koch and the second was a 52-yard pass to Cardenas.
