Santa Ana Gets First Win of the Season against OCC
SANTA ANA , CA – The Santa Ana College (SAC) football team defeated Orange Coast College (OCC) 20-17 in a non-divisional Mission Conference football game. The win improves the Dons to 1-3 on the season while OCC falls to 2-2.
The Dons scored first when Al Vargas (Mater Dei HS) scooped up a Pirate fumble and returned it 29-yards for a touchdown. After the Cody Hilgenberg (El Dorado HS) extra point, the Dons led 7-0 with less than five minutes left in the first quarter.
OCC cut the lead to 7-3 with a 45-yard field goal seconds into the second quarter. The Pirates scored their first touchdown of the game later in the quarter on a four-yard touchdown run giving them the lead at 10-7.
The Dons scored twice before the end of the half to take a 21-10 half time lead. The first touchdown was a six-yard run by Bryson Kelly (Kamiak HS) followed four minutes later by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Mark Iddins (Kamiak HS) to Matt Cardenas (El Dorado HS).
OCC scored the final points of the game with three minutes remaining in the third quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass to cut the Dons lead to 21-17. However, the Pirates were unable to find the end zone again as SAC earned its first victory of the season.
The Dons defense held OCC to 240 offensive yards and forced three turnovers including two interceptions by David Allen (Fullerton HS). Kelly was the leading rusher for the Dons with 100 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown.
