Eight Players Named First, Second Team All-Mission

LONG BEACH, CA
- Eight Santa Ana football players received All-Mission Conference, National Division honors following the Dons' 5-5 season. Heading the list were three first team selections in running back Dartangan Johnson, offensive lineman A.J. Slater and kick D.Johnsonreturner Kaleo Igarta.

Johnson (So., Newport Harbor HS) led the conference in rushing with 1,302 yards and nine touchdowns on 266 carries and became just the third running back in Santa Ana history to eclipse 2,000 career rushing yards as he finished with 2,033 in just 16 games. Only Camron King (20 games, 2,533) and Estrus Crayton (21 games, 2,452) had rushed for more in their career. Johnson finished second in all-purpose yards with 1,537. The former Newport Harbor High School-product caught 21 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown A.J. Slaterto go along with his 1,302 rushing yards. His lone touchdown reception covered 80-yards in Santa Ana's 36-31 win at Pasadena City College.

Slater (So., Newport Harbor HS) was one of the main reasons for Johnson's success having started all 10 games at left tackles for the Dons.

Igarta (Fr., La Habra HS) landed top kick returner honors after leading the National Division with 21 kick returns for 537 yards (25.6 avg.) and a touchdown, a 94-yarder against Saddleback Kaleo IgartaCollege.

Five Dons received second team recognition in quarterback Daniel Morales (Fr., La Habra HS), wide receiver Trent Sakioka (Fr., La Habra HS), tight end Aaron Roupoli (So., Mater Dei), defensive back Thomas Christian (Fr., Long Beach Polytechnic) and defensive lineman Tony Ete'aki (So., Garden Grove).

Those earning honorable mention accolades include offensive linemen Brian McHugh (Fr., Mater Dei HS), Steve Bautista (Fr., Mater Dei HS) and Dennis Amy (So., Moreno Valley HS); linebackers Ray Andong (Fr., Mater Dei HS) and Tommy Storing (So., Esperanza HS); defensive back Myles Banford (Fr., Fountain Valley HS) and defensive lineman Ottis Ueligitone (So., Villa Park HS).

Johnson Breaks 2,000-yard Barrier In Loss

SANTA ANA, CA
- Santa Ana College running back Dartangan Johnson rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries to become just the third player in school history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in his career, but it wasn't enough as visiting El Camino College (8-2, 3-2) scored 22-unanswered points to down the Dons, 36-17, in the regular season finale for both teams.

Despite playing in just 16 games, Johnson finishes his career with 2,033 rushing yards. Only Camron King (20 games, 2,533) and Estrus Crayton (21 games, 2,452) had rushed for more while at Santa Ana.

On Saturday, the Dons (5-5, 1-4) entertained the hopes of landing a bowl game berth with a win over the 11th-ranked Warriors after taking a 17-14 halftime lead. Defensive back Donny Spreeman gave Santa Ana a 7-0 lead when it picked up a Don Spreemanerrant center snap at the El Camino five-yard line and returned it for a touchdown with 5:41 remaining in the first.

El Camino tied the game at 7-7 when Don Poole hit Brian Flowers with a 73-yard pass to begin the second quarter. The Warriors would take the lead, 14-7, three minutes later when Damien Bryant hauled in Poole second scoring aerial of the game with 11:15 remaining in the second.

Took advantage of another El Camino fumble at its own nine-yard line to tie the game at 14-14, using a four-play drive that culminated with a one-yard Johnson run with 5:24 remaining. The Dons took a 17-14 halftime lead when Curtis Gladden drilled a 37-yard field goal as time expired.

The second half was all Warriors as they erased a three-point deficit by scoring 22 unanswered points on a pair of Flowers' touchdowns and a 100-yard interception return by Nate Ness.

Flowers gave El Camino the lead for good at 21-17 with a four-yard run with 5:57 remaining in the third quarter and his second touchdown reception of the day, a 59-yarder, three minutes later that gave the Warriors a 29-17 lead.
Ness capped the game's scoring with his interception return at the 11:05 mark of the fourth quarter.

Flowers finished with 183 all-purpose yards in the win, rushing for 55 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and catching three passes for 128 yards and two scores. Despite throwing three interceptions, El Camino's Dan Poole complete 12-of-23 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns.

Santa Ana freshman quarterback Daniel Morales had his roughest outing of the year as he completed just 9-of-23 passes for 116 yards and two interceptions.

Defensively the Dons were led by Spreeman who finished with a game-high nine tackles including six solo stops and a fumble return for a touchdown. Tommy Storing finished with six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack while Nathan Dedic, Ray Andong and Matt Resquer each had interceptions.

Fullerton Retains "Key" With Triple Overtime Win

SANTA ANA, CA
- Alfred Guidrey's 25-yard touchdown run in the third overtime gave visiting Fullerton College the lead for good and allowed the Hornets to retain the "Key to the County" for the fourth straight year with a
36-28 win over Santa Ana College, Saturday.

It was the 82nd meeting between the two teams and the first time that a game had been decided in overtime. Despite the loss, the Dons still holds a 40-38-4 advantage in the series.

Guidrey, who rushed for 87 yards on 16 carries, scored three of his four touchdowns in the extra periods after Santa Ana and Fullerton battled to a
14-14 tie at the end of intermission.

The Hornets got on the scoreboard first when cornerback Stephen Randolph intercepted a Daniel Morales pass and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Randolph finished the day with seven tackles, two interceptions and two blocked kicks.

After Santa Ana's Curtis Gladden cut the Hornets lead to 7-3 with a 27-yard field goal, Guidrey scored his first of four touchdowns on a one-yard run at the 5:10 mark of the second quarter. Gladden connected on his second field goals of the first half, a 39-yard fielder, that made it 14-6 at halftime.

Fullerton took its 14-6 lead into the fourth quarter only to have Santa Ana's Morales and tight end Joe Monsoor hook up for a five-yard scoring pass midway through the fourth quarter to make it 14-12. The Dons tied the game, 14-14, when Morales, who completed 22-of-34 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown on the day, connected with Rick Taloa for the two-point conversion.

The Dons had two opportunities to win the game in regulation, but Gladden had his first of two 49-yard field goal attempts in fourth quarter blocked by Randolph with 5:19 remaining. On Santa Ana's last possession, Gladden's second attempt from 49 yards narrowly missed wide left with one second remaining.

In the first overtime, Guidrey gave the Hornets a 21-14 lead when he scored on a seven-yard run. The Dons tied the game, 21-21, when Dartangan Johnson ran it in from two-yards out.

Morales gave the Dons their first lead of the game, 28-21, when he capped off a five-play, 25-yard drive with a one-yard run to start the second overtime. The lead was short-lived as Guidrey scored his third touchdown on a one-yard and made it 28-28.

Fullerton took the lead for good when Guidrey finished the scoring with his
25-yards touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage in third extra period. The Hornets retained the Key to the County when Johnson fumbled on Santa Ana's second play in the final overtime. Johnson rushed for 148 yards and one touchdown on 38 carries and caught three passes for 49 to finish with 197 all-purpose yards.

Fullerton improves to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the Mission Conference National Division while Santa Ana falls to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Next: Santa Ana will host El Camino College on Saturday, November 13 at
1 p.m. in its regular-season finale when the two teams meet at Santa Ana Stadium.

Riverside Holds Off Santa Ana For 27-23 Win

RIVERSIDE, CA - With the ball at its own one-yard line, Riverside College used a 14-play, 69-yard drive that consumed the final 7:06 to preserve a 27-23 Mission Conference National Division win over visiting Santa Ana College in a game played at Wheelock Stadium, Saturday. The loss dropped Santa Ana to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the Mission Conference National Divsion while Riverside improves to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.

The Dons, who fell behind 27-17 at halftime, cut the Tigers' lead to four when Dartangan Johnson scored on a one-yard run with 1:56 remaining in the third quarter. Santa Ana could have made it a three-point game, but Dominik Bronowicki's extra point attempt missed wide right.

Midway through the fourth quarter the Dons three plays to cover 43 yard and reach the Riverside 33. On first down from the Santa Ana 24, Daniel Morales complete a pass to tight end Aaron Roupoli for nine Aaron Roupoliyards
while Johnson had runs of six and 28 yards to give the Dons a first down at the Tigers' 33. The Dons were forced to punt three plays later after Johnson was tackled for a two-yard loss on first down and Morales was sacked for a seven-yard loss on second down and had his pass intended for Finas Rabb fall incomplete on third down.

Santa Ana seemed to be in good position to get the ball back quickly when Bronowicki's punt was downed at the Riverside one-yard line with 7:06 left.

Riverside had other ideas as it used 14 straight running plays and a Santa Ana personal foul penalty to accummulate five first downs to run out the clock.

Dartangan Johnson eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the season against the Tigers. The sophomore running back rushed for 132 yards and one touchdown on 29 carries on Saturday. In eight games, Johnson has rushed for 1,076 yards on 207 carries and has scored seven rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile Daniel Morales picked apart Riverside's defense as he completed 16 of his 23 pass attempts for 242 yards and two touchdowns. The freshman signal-caller had scoring strikes of 26 yards to Roupoli, who finished with six catches for 73 yards, and 60 yards to Donnell Johnson. Morales' fumble at the Santa Ana goal line with 6:45 left in the second quarter proved costly as the Tigers' Renell Robinson fell on the ball for a touchdown and gave Riverside a 27-17 halftime lead.

Defensively, the Dons were led by freshman middle linebacker Ray Andong who finished with a game-high 18 tackles. Andong made 12 solo stops, assisted on six others and had two tackles for loss including a sack.

Next: Santa Ana will host Fullerton College in another National Division game on Saturday, November 6 at 1 p.m. The game take on added meaning as both team will be playing for the "Key to the County," a perpetual trophy given to the winner of the Santa Ana-Fullerton football game. The Dons, who currently lead the series 40-37-4, and the Hornets will meet for the 82nd time on Saturday. Fullerton has won the last three meetings including a 56-24 decision a year ago.

Santa Ana Takes Advantage of Six Pasadena Miscues;
Moves Into Second Place With 36-30 Win

PASADENA, CA - On Saturday, the Santa Ana College football team took advantage of six Pasadena City College turnovers and moved into a third-place with Fullerton College in the Mission Conference National Division with a 36-30 win over the Lancers at Robinson Stadium.

The Dons (5-2, 1-1) overcame a 30-23 fourth-quarter deficit as running back Dartangan Johnson
and quarterback Daniel Morales each scored a touchdown to give Santa Ana the come-from-behind win.

Johnson, who rushed for 95 yards on 28 carries, finished the game with 184 all-purpose yards as the sophomore from Newport Harbor High School caught a pair of passes for 89 yards including an 80-yard touchdown in the second quarter that gave the Dons Daniel Moralesa 16-14 lead.

Morales meanwhile completed 14 of 24 pass attempts for 237 yards and three touchdowns. The freshman signal caller, who also threw a pair of interceptions, had scoring strikes of 80 yards to Johnson and 5 and 10 yards to tight end Rick Taloa.

After trailing 22-16 at halftime, Morales and Taloa capped off a six-play, 35-yard scoring drive with a 10-yard pass play. Santa Ana's scoring drive was set up when a Pasadena snap from center went over the head of punter Ryan Weigand
and was recovered by the Dons' Ray Andong at the Lancer 35.. Curtis Gladden made it 23-22 with the extra point.

The Lancers (2-5, 0-2) regained the lead, 30-23, when Marlon Woods returned Gladden's 42-yard missed field goal attempt 100 yards for a touchdown. Woods caught the short kick at the Pasadena goal line and followed a return wall down the left side for the score setting the stage for Santa Ana's Johnson and Morales in the fourth quarter.

Johnson tied the game, 30-30, with a two-yard touchdown run with 14:47 remaining. The Dons needed just three plays on the drive that started at the Lancers' 30-yard line after Randy Tresvant coughed up Pasadena's fourth fumble of the game.

Morales gave Santa Ana a 36-30 lead with a one-yard plunge with 7:12 remaining and turned the gave over to Santa Ana's defense which gave up 292 yards to Pasadena, its lowest total of the year.

The Lancers put together a 11-play drive that took just over five minutes and advanced to Santa Ana's 30-yard line. After an offense holding penalty pushed Pasadena back to the Dons' 41, Ron Williams rushed to Santa Ana's 35 giving the Lancers a second-and-16 situation.

On the next play Santa Ana outside linebacker Myles Banford sacked Pasadena's Shane Jackson for a seven-yard loss. On third down, Jackson was forced to leave the game after being hit
just as his pass attempt intended for Tresvant fell incomplete. Matt McIntyre, who replaced Jackson on the final play, had his pass fourth-down pass attempt knocked down by Santa Ana's Kevin Conway with 38 seconds left.

Banford finished with four tackles including a sack, an interception and broke up another. Daniel Harris led the Dons with five tackles and a fumble recovery.


Next: Santa Ana play its final regular season road game when it travels to Riverside Community College to play the Tigers at Wheelock Stadium on Saturday, October 30 at 5 p.m.

Saddleback's Late Scoring Flurry Sinks Dons

SANTA ANA, CA - Visiting Saddleback College (5-1, 1-0) scored 10 points in the final 22 seconds to down Santa Ana College (4-2, 0-1), 41-38, in the Mission Conference National Division-opener for both teams.

Saddleback tied the game at 38-38 on Chad Moline one-yard plunge with 22 seconds and won its 16 seconds later when Derik Martinez booted a 19-yard field goal with six seconds remaining.

Casey Clark set up the 12th-ranked Gaucho's winning score when he recovered a squib kick at the Dons' 17-yard line on the ensuing kickoff. Cheyne Verhagen, who carried the ball 16 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, moved the ball to Santa Ana's two-yard line with rushes of 13 and 2 yards to set up Martinez's winning kick.

The top two offensive team in the Mission Conference lived up to their billing as they combined for 973 yards of total offense. Saddleback, who
Tommy Storingentered the game averaging 416 yards per outing, finished with 585 yards of total offense while the 18th-ranked Dons, who were averaging 397 per outing, amassed 388 yards.

Offensively, Santa Ana was led by freshman quarterback Daniel Morales who completed 14 of his 20 passes for 213 and four touchdowns and sophomore running back Dartangan Johnson who rushed for 130 yards on 24 carries. Morales connected on scoring strikes of 27 yards to Donnell Marshall, 12 yards to Finas Rabb, 36 yards to Cameron Clemons and 32 yards to Jamin Shepard.

Santa Ana's Curtis Gladden got the Dons on the board first with a 46-yard field goal with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter before Morales threw three of his touchdowns in the second quarter. Morales' third scoring pass in the period, a 36 yarder to Cameron Clemons with 11 seconds remaining, made it 24-24 at halftime.

The Dons took a 31-24 lead with 9:04 remaining in the third when Morales hooked up with Shepard for 32-yard score. After Saddleback's Anthony Matagi made it 31-31 at the 7:54 mark of the fourth quarter, Santa Ana quickly regained the lead when Kaleo Igarta returned Andrew Larson's kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown.

Santa Ana had a chance to take on more points after Dons' linebacker Ray Andong picked off a Brennan pass and returned it to the Gaucho 30-yard line, but a pair of personal foul penalties pushed Santa Ana out of field goal range with 5:50 remaining.

With 2:36 remaining, Colt Brennan, who completed 22 of his 32 passes for 406 yards and a touchdown, led the Gauchos on a seven-play, 69-yard scoring drive that made it 38-38 on Moline's one-yard run and set the stage for Martinez's winning kick.

Defensively the Dons were led by sophomore linebacker Tommy Storing who finished with 13 tackles and freshman cornerback Thomas Christian who tallied 10 tackles including one for a 12-yard loss.

Next: Santa Ana will take on Pasadena City College on Saturday, October 23 at Robinson Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

Santa Ana Hands OCC Ninth Straight Loss;
Dons Roll Up 515 Yards On Offense In 37-14 Win

SANTA ANA, CA - Nineteenth-ranked Santa Ana College handed visiting Orange Coast College its ninth straight loss in its 37-14 win over the Pirates (0-5) at Santa Ana Stadium on Saturday. The Dons (3-1) won their second game in a row and will take next week off before beginning Mission Conference National Division play on Saturday, October 16 when they will host Saddleback College.

Dartangan Johnson (Newport Harbor HS) rushed for 132 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries as Santa Ana finished with 515 yards of total offense against the Pirates. Johnson also caught four passes for 33 yards to finish with 165 yards of total offense. Donnell Johnson (Savanna HS) came off the bench and rushed for 77 yards on just 10 carries including a 45-yard touchdown run with 5:31 remaining for the Dons final score. He also returned a punt 31 yards and one kickoff 14 yards to finish with 122 all-purpose yards.

Daniel Morales (La Habra HS) and Rick Taloa (Esperanza HS) combine to complete 11 of their 15 passes for 195 yards. Morales completed passed for 174 yards by completing 10 of 14 passes including a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jamin Shepard (La Habra HS) in the fouth quarter. Taloa also found Shepard for his only completion of the game, a 41-yard strike in the second quarter. Shepard finished with three catches for 86 yards and a score.

Morales also rushed six times for 74 yards and a touchdown as he totaled 228 yards of total offense, Saturday.

Defensively, Santa Ana shutdown the Orange Coast offense in the second half limiting the Pirates to just 57 yards. The Pirates finished with 289 total yard after putting up 232 yards of offense in the first two quarters.

Daniel Harris (El Dorado HS) and Ray Andong (Mater Dei HS) led defensive efforts for the Dons. Harris was in on eight tackles including one tackle for loss while breaking up two pass attempts. Andong finished with seven tackles.

Santa Ana overcame an early 7-0 deficit with a pair of touchdown runs by Dartangan Johnson and Terrance Toki (Western HS). Johnson scored from six-yards out with 5:32 remaining in the first while Toki gave the Dons the led with a two-yard plunge early in the second quarter.

Orange Coast's Matt Downs, who rushed for 95 yards on 16 carries, tied the game at 14-14 with a 26-yard run just before halftime. It was his second scoring run of the half as he opened the game with a 13-yard scamper.

The second half belonged to the Dons as they outscored the Pirates, 27-0, to improve to 4-1. Curtis Gladden (Pacifica HS) gave Santa Ana the lead for good with 11:14 left in the third quarter with his 39-yard field goal. The Dons final three scores came on a 40-yard run by Morales, a 29-yard pass reception by Jamin Shepard and a 45-yard run by Donnell Johnson.


Next: Santa Ana will host Saddleback College on Saturday, October 16 at 1 p.m. in the Mission Conference National Division opener for both teams.

Turnovers Prove Costly In Santa Ana's 42-11 Loss

NORWALK, CA - Santa Ana College fell to 2-1 overall as Long Beach City College took advantage of five second-half Dons' turnovers to score 28 unanswered points and come away with a 42-11 win.

After cutting the Vikings' 14-9 halftime lead to 14-11 with a safety at the 12:53 mark of the third quarter, Santa Ana looked to take advantage of the momentum following the free kick, but freshman quarterback Daniel Morales' (La Habra HS) first pass of the second half was intercepted by Antonio Steele at the Santa Ana 40-yard line.

The Vikings increased their lead to 21-11 seven plays later when Richard Nicoles scored his third touchdown from a yard out with 9:46 left in the third quarter. Nicoles, who finished with 139 yards on 17 carries, scored on runs of one, 36 and 70 yards.

Long Beach City made it 28-11 when Alex Aispuro connected with Jerryll Martin on a 36-yard touchdown pass and 35-11 when Marquell Ricks returned Morales' third interception 23 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter.

Dion Myers capped off the scoring with a four-yard run with 4:19 remaining to make the final, 42-11.

Dartangan Johnson (Newport Harbor HS) led the Santa Ana offensive attack with 22 carries for 104 yards on Saturday. Jamin Shepard (La Habra HS) caught a season-high five passes for 57 yards while Chris Duplessis (Sylmar HS) finished with three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown, a 22-yard reception in the second quarter.

Morales completed 16-of-33 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown while being picked off three times. Rick Taloa (Esperanza HS), who caught a pass for eight yards, relieved Morales in the fourth quarter and connected on two of his eight passes for 16 yards. He also had a pair of interceptions.

Next: Santa Ana will be on the road for the third consecutive week when it travels to LeBard Stadium (Costa Mesa, CA) to take on Golden West College, Saturday, September 25 at 5 p.m. LeBard Stadium is located on the Orange Coast College (OCC) campus, 2701 Fairview Road in Costa Mesa.

Santa Ana Holds Off Santa Monica, 41-38;
Johnson Rushes For 257 Yards, Scores Twice


SANTA MONICA, CA - Dartangan Johnson (Newport Harbor HS) rushed for a career-high 257 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries as Santa Ana College (SAC) held off Santa Monica College (SMC), 41-38, in non-conference football action Saturday night. The gives Santa Ana a 2-0 start for the second time in as many years while the Corsairs fall to 1-1 on year.

With 12 seconds remaining, Matt Resquer (Troy HS) sealed the win for the Dons when he knocked downs Jeff Krieger's fourth down pass that was intended for B. J. Vickers at the Santa Ana 30-yard line. After starting their final possession at their own 15 yard line with just 43 seconds remaining, the Corsairs quickly moved the ball to their own 43-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.

SAC and SMC combined for 1,030 yards of offense and 146 plays from scrimmage in the three-hour,
Curtis Gladden21-minute shootout. The Dons finished with 447 total yards (299 rushing, 143 passing) while the Corsairs amassed 583 yards (309 rushing, 274 passing).

After four lead changes in the first half, Johnson's gave the Dons the lead for good on his first of two touchdowns, a 35-yard run, that put Santa Ana ahead, 24-20, with 4:15 remaining in the second quarter. The former Newport Harbor-product added a 33-yard scoring run at the 6:59 mark of the their quarter to give the Dons an eight-point lead, 34-26.

The Dons' also got touchdown runs from freshman quarterback Daniel Morales (La Habra HS), a five-yard run in the first quarter, and Donnell Johnson (Savanna HS), a two-yard run in the fourth quarter that capped the Dons' scoring. Morales, who completed 15 of his 26 passes for 143 yards, also threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Joe Monsoor (Garden Grove HS) while Donnell Johnson finished with 41 yards on nine carries.

Santa Ana won the battle of the kicking game as freshman Curtis Gladden (Pacifica HS) out dueled the Corsairs' Fernando Camargo. Gladden was
5-for-5 on his PATs and connected on two of his three field goal attempts, including a 47-yarder early in the second quarter. He also drilled a 28-yard field goal on the Dons' first possession of the second half to give Santa Ana the lead for good at 27-26. Camargo was 2-for-3 on PAT attempts and missed on his only PAT passing attempt.

Santa Monica was led by Krieger who completed 17 of 31 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns and B. J. Vickers who finished with 181 all-purpose yards. Vickers caught five passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns and rushed two times for 66 yards and another score. Maurice Little was the Corsairs top rusher with 125 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

Next: Santa Ana will face Long Beach City College (0-2) in the first of three games against teams from the American Division of the Mission Conference on Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m. The Santa Ana-Long Beach City game will be played at Cerritos College instead of Veterans Memorial Stadium in Long Beach because of field renovations going on at the facility. Cerritos College is located at 11110 E. Alondra Blvd. in Norwalk, CA.

Dons Work Overtime In 19-12 Win Over L. A. Pierce


SANTA ANA, CA - For the second year in a row, Santa Ana College (SAC) handed Los Angeles Pierce a season-opening loss. On Saturday, the Dons (1-0) needed overtime to come away with a 19-12 win over the visiting Brahma Bulls in a game played at the Santa Ana Bowl.

Freshman quarterback Daniel Morales (La Habra HS) hit sophomore tight end Aaron Roupoli with a 25-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime to give the Dons the come-from-behind win. Morales made the most of his freshman debut by passing completing 19 of his 30 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns. Roupoli, who finished with a team-high seven catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns, was on the receiving end of both of Morales' scoring strikes.

Aaron RopouliAfter the Brahma Bulls took a 6-3 lead on a 12-yard run by Perry Wilson with 11:21 remaining in the second quarter, Morales and Roupoli hooked up for their first time on a four-yard pass play to give the Dons a 9-6 lead at halftime.

Los Angeles Pierce regained the lead in the fourth quarter when Mike Davis returned a Dons' fumble 58 yards for a touchdown with 11:37 left in the game. Morales, who scrambled for eight yards on the play, fumbled after being hit at the Brahma Bulls 42-yard line only to have Davis pick up the loose ball and return it for the score.

Santa Ana overcame the turnover a two possessions later when the Dons tied the game, 12-12, on Curtis Gladden's (Pacifica) 25-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining which sent the game into overtime setting the stage for Morales and Roupoli in overtime.

The Dons sealed the game when Toni Ete'aki (Garden Grove HS) sacked Brandon Charles on fourth down in overtime.

Next: Santa Ana will travel to Santa Monica College on Saturday, September 11 to take on Corsairs in a non-conference football schedule scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Santa Ana's Johnson, Ueligitone Named To
JuCal Transfer Pre-Season All-State Team


SANTA ANA , CA - On Tuesday (August 28), Santa Ana College's (SAC) sophomore running back Dartangan Johnson (Newport Harbor HS) and sophomore linebacker Ottis Ueligitone (Villa Park HS) were named to the Second Annual JuCal Transfer Pre-Season All-State Team.
Dartangan Johnson
Johnson (6-0, 220, So., RB) rushed for 731 yards and six touchdowns on 162 carries in the first five games in 2003 before suffering a broken ankle against Saddleback College that sidelined him for the remainder of the year. The former Newport Harbor-product rushed for 191 yards on 40 carries in a 16-13 win over Long Beach City College a year ago. His 40 carries against the Vikings broke Brandon Fisher's school record of 37 rushing attempts in a game set back in 2001 against Moorpark College. Despite missing the better part of four games, Johnson still led the team in rushing
Ottis Ueligitoneand total offense.

Ueligitone (6-3, 245, So., LB) finished third on the team in tackles as a freshman. The Anaheim-native played in all 10 games a year ago and tallied 20 assisted tackles and 24 assisted tackles. Ueligitone was second on the team with nine tackles for loss behind fellow sophomore Tony Ete'aki who finished with 12. He also was in on one sack, broke up a pass and recovered a fumble in 2003.

Johnson, Ueligitone and the Dons will open up their 2004 season when they host Los Angeles Pierce College (LAP) in a non-conference game at the Santa Ana Bowl (Santa Ana, CA) on Saturday, September 4. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
