Dons Fall to LA Harbor 47-45 in Offensive Shootout

WIMINGTON, CA - In a game full of offense, one last defensive stand kept the Santa Ana College football team from staying undefeated in a 47-45 loss at Los Angeles Harbor College. The loss drops the Dons to 2-1 while Harbor improved to 3-0.

The Seahawks jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game on two one-yard touchdown runs by Dominic Blackman and Jon White.

The Dons cut the lead to 14-7 when Jordan Thomas hit Dakota Hopkins on a 43-yard touchdown reception. Harbor came back less than two minutes later with a 47-yard touchdown run by White to extend their lead to 21-7.

With a 1:26 left in the first quarter, Thomas threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this time a 40-yard pass to Mario Pineda to pull the Dons within seven at 21-14.

Donald Matthews extended the Seahawks lead to 27-14 on a five-yard touchdown run. Harbor failed to convert the extra point as the kick bounced off the left goal post.

Devin DeLeon scored on a one-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 27-21 and Aaron Martinez gave the Dons their first lead of the game at 28-27 when he scored on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Thomas on fourth down.

The Dons extended their lead to 35-27 when Thomas threw his fourth touchdown pass this time connecting with Parker Roberts from 17-yards out.

Harbor then tied the game on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Blackman to Dwayne Frampton with Blackman finding Sherman Ratliff for the two-point conversion.

Chase Lansford started the fourth quarter with a 25-yard field goal to put the Dons up 38-35 before Matthews scored his second five-yard touchdown run to put Harbor back on top 41-35. Va Mataia blocked the extra point.

With nine minutes remaining in the half Thomas tied a Santa Ana College record with his fifth touchdown pass, connecting with Hopkins for a 61-yard touchdown on the Dons first play of their drive.

On the ensuing kickoff, White fielded the ball a few yards deep in his own end zone and returned it for a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to put Harbor up 45-47.

The Seahawks went on to stop the Dons on a fourth-and-four later in the quarter and Darryl Feemster ended the Dons last chance when he intercepted Thomas with 53 seconds remaining in the game.

Thomas finished the game with 345 yards on 19-of-29 passing with the five touchdowns and one interception. Hopkins led the Dons receiving with two catches, both for touchdowns and 104 yards.

The Dons also had 132 yards rushing on 33 carries with Wesley Fletcher leading the way with 46 yards on 11 carries. In total, the Dons had 477 yards of total offense on 62 plays.
