Big 2nd Half Pushes Dons Past San Diego Mesa 44-13
SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) football team improved to 2-0 on the young season following its 44-13 victory over visiting San Diego Mesa College at the Santa Ana Stadium.
Wesley Fletcher opened the scoring for the Dons when he marched into the end zone from six-yards out as the clock expired in the first quarter to put the Dons up 7-0.
Jordan Thomas extended the Dons lead to 14-0 in the second quarter when he hit Buddy Guastella in the corner of the end zone for the touchdown.
Mesa cut the Dons lead to 14-7 halfway through the third quarter when Will Miller scooped a Dons fumble and returned it 25-yards for the score.
The Dons answered less than a minute later when Thomas threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this time connecting with Julius Macharia for the 48-yard touchdown.
Johnny Privitelli pushed the Dons lead to 28-7 with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter with a 36-yard rushing touchdown, eluding several Mesa defenders in the process.
Thomas and Macharia hooked up for the second time of the game for a 15-yard pass and catch touchdown. Jaron Hytche scored the final touchdown of the game for the Dons on a five-yard run.
Braxton Welford scored on a five-yard run for the Olympians. On the ensuing point-after-touchdown attempt, Va Mataia blocked the attempt and Aaron Martinez returned the ball for two points.
Thomas led the Dons with 248 yards on 20-of-34 passing with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Wesley Fletcher was the leading rusher with 42 yards on eight carries.
Macharia was the Dons top receiver catching five balls for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
