Dons Can't Overcome Early Deficit; Lost to Palomar
SANTA ANA, CA – The Santa Ana College (SAC) football team lost to visiting Palomar College 38-14 in a Southern Conference football game. The loss drops the Dons to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play while Palomar improves to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Palomar jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter with touchdowns of 49-yards and 56-yards respectively. The Comets added three more scores in the second quarter for a 35-0 halftime lead.
Michael Coulter (El Dorado HS) cut the lead to 35-7 when he threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cory Besch (Loara HS). The touchdown was the only score for either team in third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Ray Contreras (El Dorado HS) came in at quarterback for the Dons and connected with Matt Cardenas (El Dorado HS) on a three-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 35-14.
However, it wasn't enough as the Comets tacked on three more points with a 27-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to end a five minute drive and seal the victory.
Phillip Van Holland (El Dorado HS) led the Dons with 41 rushing yards on seven carries and 65 receiving yards on four catches. Matt Cardenas (El Dorado HS) chipped in with 73 yards receiving on five catches and one touchdown. |
