SANTA ANA, CA – After having the best start in nearly 40 years, the Santa Ana College (SAC) football team has now lost three straight games and falls to 6-3 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. Their latest loss game at the hands of Saddleback College (9-0, 4-0), that is the number one team in the country.
The Dons scored first when Kasey Peters (Newport Beach HS) connected with David Richmond (Garden Grove HS) on a 56-yard touchdown on a flea-flicker, the two-point conversion failed putting the Dons up 6-0.
Saddleback answered later in the second quarter when PT Gates broke out for a 30-yard touchdown run that put the Gauchos up 7-6, Saddleback held the lead for the remainder of the game.
After a 32-yard field goal put Saddleback up 10-6, the Gauchos scored their next touchdown in the third quarter on a 17-yard pass play. Gates added the final score for the Gauchos on an 11-yard touchdown run.
Brian Allen (Fullerton HS) found his way into the end zone in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run, cutting the Gauchos' lead to 24-12. However, the Gauchos recovered the onside kick. The Dons stopped the Gauchos on defense but were unable to generate any offense late and Saddleback remained undefeated with the victory.
