SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College (SAC) football starts its season with a perfect 5-0 record for the first time since 1989 when the Dons finished 10-1. SAC completed its preseason with a 50-33 win over Pasadena City College (PCC) in an inter-division Mission Conference game.
PCC struck first on a four-play, 67-yard drive that was capped off by a 46-yard touchdown pass by David Pittman to Tommie Leonard in the first quarter. SAC wasn't able to get on the board until the second quarter when Brian Allen (Fullerton HS) scored on a 15-yard scamper into the end zone. A two-point conversion put the Dons up 8-7.
SAC scored later in the quarter when Kasey Peters (Newport Beach HS) hit DeAndre Williams (Long Beach Poly HS) from 14-yards out, extending the Dons' lead to 14-7. The Lancers answered with another touchdown pass from Pittman, this time to Mario Hill for from 13-yards out, tying the game at 14-14.
The Dons took the lead back with 24 seconds left in the half on a 3-yard touchdown run by Joshua Jones (Los Alamitos HS). PCC scored on the ensuing kick-off when Marcus Anderson returned the kick 86-yards sending the game into halftime at 22-21, with SAC on top.
Wide receiver David Richmond (Garden Grove HS) threw a 73-yard touchdown pass to Williams on the Dons' second play of the third quarter, extending the lead to 28-21. SAC scored the next three touchdowns, two by Allen and an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown by Eric Rivera (La Habra HS) for the Dons' final touchdown for a 50-27 Dons' lead.
PCC scored two touchdowns late, both were passes by Pittman to David Reed, making the final score 50-33.
Peters finished the game with 218 yards on 14-for-24 passing with one touchdown and one interception. Williams led all receivers with five catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Allen had another big game rushing for the Dons with 163 yards on 23 carries.
Defensively the Dons were led by Nathan Mitani (Edison HS) who had seven tackles with Mikell Mair right behind him with six tackles. Dimitri Majors (Foothill HS) and Ben Tialino (Tustin HS) each had a sack for the Dons in the victory.
