El Camino Hands Santa Ana First Division Loss

SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter but its comeback against El Camino College fell short when Daniel Morales had his fourth-quarter pass picked off by Tyler Flack. The Dons cut the Warriors' lead from 45-22 to 45-38 with 6:32 remaining when Morales connected with Finas Rabb on a 13-yard pass play, the tandem’s second scoring play of the game.

ChristianFollowing a defensive stop that gave the Dons the ball at their own 30 with 3:27 remaining Santa Ana’s comeback hopes dimmed when Morales, who completed 20 of 36 for 231 and four touchdowns, had his 35th pass of the game intercepted by El Camino linebacker Flack at the Dons’ 44.

El Camino took advantage of the Dons’ first turnover of the game when Brian Flowers scored three plays later on a six-yard run to give the Warriors a
52-38 lead at the 2:20 mark.

RabbThe Dons’ fourth-quarter rally was started by sophomore cornerback Thomas Christian who returned Nick Alaimalo’s fumbled PAT, a Santa Ana-school record 99-yards for a score that made it a
45-24 game with 13:22 remaining. Following a nine-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a Morales-to-Rabb five-yard scoring pass and cut the Warriors’ lead to 45-31, the Dons took over on downs on El Camino’s next possession when freshman defensive end Kyle Lancaster sacked Lyle Moevao for an
18-yard loss on a fourth-and-17 play at Santa Ana’s 47.

Following the sack, Lancaster’s eighth of the season, and a five-yard delay of game penalty, Santa Ana took over at the El Camino 48 and scored its final seven points when Morales connected with Rabb for the second time in four minutes.
