Santa Ana Routs Pasadena City, 50-7

SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College (4-1) tied a school record in their 50-7 win over Pasadena City College (1-4) in Mission Conference crossover football, Saturday. It was just the second time in school history that Santa Ana has scored 50 or more points three times during a season. The last time the Dons accomplished that feat was in 1994 when they finished 9-2 overall and played Los Angeles Valley College in the Simple Green Orange County Bowl.

David BuehlerAgainst the Lancers the offense didn’t take long to get going thanks to good field position and a couple of Pasadena City miscues. The Dons scored 23 first-quarter point in route to a 43-0 halftime lead. Santa Ana got a pair of touchdown runs from runningback/linebacker/placekicker David Buehler. Buehler, who was making his first appearance in the Dons’ backfield this season scored on his only two offensive touches of the game on runs of 7 and 25 yards to give Santa Ana a 14-0 lead.

The Dons made it 16-0 when Mike Swanson blocked Ali De La Mora’s punt out of the Lancers’ end zone at the 2:14 mark. Santa Ana needed just four plays and 23 seconds to make it 23-0 as Kaleo Igarta returned Angel Reyes’ kickoff 41 yards to the Lancers’ 47-yardline and Daniel Morales, who completed 8 of 14 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, hooked up with Finas Rabb and DeAndre Williams on back-to-back completions to give the Dons first-and-goal at the Lancers’ eight-yardline. One play later Devonte Merrifield finished the drive with an eight-yard run.

Santa Ana scored three more times in the second quarter as Igarta rushed seven yards for a touchdown and hauled in a 37-yard scoring pass from Morales with 22 second left before intermission. Sandwiched in between Igarta’s two scores was a 30-yard touchdown pass from Morales to Cameron Clemons at the 2:32 mark.

Igarta led the Dons with 129 all-purpose yards while Bueher rushed twice for 32 yards and two touchdowns, intercepted a pass from his linebacker position returning it 13 yards and recorded five touchbacks as a part of his kickoff duties.
