Dons' Offense, Defense Dominate Olympians

SANTA ANA, CA - Eighteen-ranked Santa Ana College rolled up 536 yards of total offense as the Dons improved to 2-0 with a 52-14 non-conference football win over visiting San Diego Mesa College (1-1), Saturday, at Santa Ana Stadium/Eddie West Field. Sophomore quarterback Daniel Morales passed for a career-high 317 yards and four touchdowns on 14 of 20 passing with one interception. Morales had scoring strikes of 8, 26, 35 and 79 yards to four different receivers. He also scored on a 34-yard scamper before leaving in the third quarter.

Finas Rabb had a team-high five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown
(8 yards) for the Dons. Freshman Mykeal Terry and sophomores Jamin Shepard and Cameron Clemons each caught one pass apiece, but all went for scores. Terry hauled in a 79-yard aerial from Morales while Shepards and Clemons' and scoring catches covered 35 and 26 yards, respectively.

Running back Brandon Holiwell rushed for a game-high 81 yard and a touchdown on 13 carries while Kyle LancasterRoyden Nabarro finished with 53 yards on just two attempts.

Freshman defensive end Kyle Lancaster, making his first start, was in on game-high nine tackles for the Dons including three sacks. He now leads Santa Ana with five sacks on the year.

The Dons defense harrassed Olympians' quarterbacks Jacob Santos and Kyle Ahmadain all afternoon picking off four of their passes. Nate Mitani, Ryan Salazar, Dominic Robinson and Jeremiah Guzzi each had interceptions for Santa Ana.

Santos led the Olmpians with 211 yards passing on 19 of 37 passing. He hooked up with Joel Albers on a 36-yards scoring play in the second quarter, but then was picked off three time in the second half. Zack Jara had a team-high 63 yards rushing on 15 carries including a two-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter.

Next: On Saturday, September 17, Santa Ana (2-0) will host Fullerton (2-0) in the 83rd meeting between the two teams. At stake is the "key" to the county that goes to the winning team in the series. Despite dropping the last four decisions, Santa Ana leads the series 40-38-4. The game will be held at Santa Ana Stadium/Eddie West Field with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
