May 17, 2008 - vs. Southwestern BOXSCORE vs. Irvine Valley BOXSCORE
Dons Defeat Irvine Valley to Stay Alive in Playoffs

SANTA ANA, CA - After losing the morning game to Southwestern College 8-6, the Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team returned to the field an hour and a half later to defeat Irvine Valley College (IVC) 5-2. The Dons will face Southwestern College Sunday morning in another elimination game.

IVC jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Matt Ivanoff singled to center field, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brian Ferrante and scored on a single through the right side by Abel Medina.

The Dons came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning when Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) doubled to right-center and scored on two consecutive passed balls.

SAC extended its lead to 4-1 in the third inning with three runs on three hits. James Davis (Garden Grove HS) led the inning off with a single followed by a single from Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS). Kyle Ammons (Huntington Beach HS) then drew a walk to load the bases. Marcus Piazzisi (El Dorado HS) followed with a two-run double down the right field line and Matt Allen (Orange HS) ground out to short stop, scoring Ammons.

The Dons scored their fifth, and final, run in the fifth inning when Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) hit a RBI double to left-center field scoring Derek Eligio (Esperanza HS).

IVC scored its second run in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 5-2 when Alex Agortsas hit a sacrifice fly to score Medina.

Brad Wilson (Pacifica HS) picked up the win as he scattered six hits in seven innings pitched to remain undefeated at 4-0. Henry Buenrostro (Santa Ana HS) pitched the final two innings for his third save of the season.

The Dons will face Southwestern College on Sunday in an elimination game. Southwestern needs only one win to advance to the State Championships and the Dons would need to win both games to move on.
