Pinder Strikes Out Nine Batters in Dons 14-1 Victory
SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team defeated visiting Saddleback College 14-1 to improve to 7-1 in the Orange Empire Conference and 22-8 overall. The loss drops the Gauchos to 16-15 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.
Brandon Pinder (Centennial HS) improved to 7-1 on the season as he pitched a complete game. Pinder allowed one run on seven hits while striking out nine batters. During one stretch of the game, he retired 12 batters in a row and didn't walk a single batter the entire game.
The Dons scored six runs in the third inning to jump out to an early 6-0 lead on three separate two-run singles by Kyle Hardman (Mission Viejo HS), Kyle Ammons (Huntington Beach HS) and Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS).
SAC added three unearned runs in the fourth inning helped by two throwing errors by the Gauchos. The Dons extended their lead to 11-1 in the fifth inning when Jake Eccles (Temescal Canyons HS) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Tarango followed by a Matt Allen (Orange HS) single that scored James Davis (Garden Grove).
Tarango put SAC up 12-1 in the sixth with an RBI single that scored Hardman from second base. The final two runs came in the eighth inning on a single through the left side by Eccles that scored Derek Eligio (Esperanza HS) and Tarango.
