Dons Suffer First Loss in Conference to Orange Coast
SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team lost to visiting Orange Coast College (OCC) 8-4 in an Orange Empire Conference game. The loss drops the Dons to 14-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play while the Pirates improve to 15-6-1 overall and 2-1 in conference.
OCC took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run in the top of the first inning and never gave up the lead. The Pirates added three more runs in the second inning on five hits and a throwing error by SAC.
After OCC extended its lead in the sixth inning to 6-0 on a single to center field, the Dons rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning. Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) reached base to lead the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. He was followed by Kyle Hardman (Mission Viejo HS) who put SAC on the board with a two-run home run.
Caleb Boyer (Temecula Valley HS) later doubled in the inning and scored on a single by Kyle Ammons (Huntington Beach HS). Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS), who reached on a single to right field, cut the Pirates' lead to 6-4 as he scored when Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) reached on a fielding error.
OCC added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning and held the Dons from scoring again to secure the 8-4 victory. Brendan Hall (McIntosh HS, GA) suffered the loss for SAC as he allowed five runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings pitched.
