Eligio Hits Two Home Runs in Victory over Fullerton

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team defeated visiting Fullerton College 6-1 in an Orange Empire Conference game. The victory improves the Dons to 14-6 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while the Hornets fall to 16-3 overall and 1-1 in conference.

SAC opened the scoring in the third inning when lead-off batter Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) scored on a triple to right field by Kyle Hardman (Mission Viejo HS). Leverson originally reached base on a walk and later moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Allen (Orange HS).

Derek Eligio (Esperanza HS) followed Hardman's triple with a two-run home run to left field giving the Dons a 3-0 lead. Fullerton cut the lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning with an RBI double but was unable to generate offense for the remainder of the game.

Eligio extended SAC's lead to 4-1 in the eighth inning when he hit the first pitch of the inning deep to left field for his second home run of the game. Two batters later, Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) hit a solo home run followed later in the inning by a solo home run by Jake Eccles (Temescal Canyon HS) for the Dons sixth run.

Kyle Mertins (El Dorado HS) earned his third win of the season pitching 8 1/3 innings while allowing one run on seven hits. He struck out eight batters with only one walk.
