Santa Ana Routs Bakersfield, 14-7;
Advances To SoCal Super Regional
SANTA ANA, CA -
Third baseman Mike Forman hit a pair of home runs and first baseman Rick Taloa hit a grand slam as fifth-seeded Santa Ana College (31-9) routed visiting 12th-seeded Bakersfield College (23-17), 14-7, in California Community College Southern California Regional Baseball Playoff action, Sunday. The Dons advance to next weekend's California Community College Southern California Super Regional where they will face a familiar foe in Cypress College (25-13) who knocked off eighth-seeded Los Angeles Valley College (24-16) in their best-of-3 series.

Santa Ana and Cypress will meeting in the Super Regional's first game on Friday, May 20 at 11 a.m. followed by the second game which features host-Orange Coast College (26-15) and Irvine Valley College (27-13) at 3 p.m.
To get there Santa Ana overcame a 4-0, first-inning deficit by scoring in seven of the final eight innings including a five-run fourth inning that featured Taloa's (1 for 6, 4 RBI) grand slam that gave the Dons a 6-4 lead. Forman, meanwhile, finished 4 for 6 at the plate with a pair of home runs and 4 RBI. The sophomore third baseman, hit a solo shot in the eight and capped the Dons' scoring with a three-run shot to left in the ninth.

CJ Rice was 3 for 5 with two runs scored as the Dons pounded out 17 hits in the win. Jacob Vasquez (2 for 4 1 RBI), Tyler Greer (2 for 5 1 RBI) and Jose Chavez (2 for 5, 2 RBI) each had two hits apiece for the Dons.
Despite giving up four first-inning runs, Santa Ana starter Daniel Arizmendi bounced back with three scoreless inninngs to improve to 9-1 on the year. The sophomore lefthander gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits, three walks and two hit batters. He struck out seven.
Ryan Steele (2 for 5, 1 run) and Josh Frost (2 for 4, 2 runs) led the Renegades with two hits apiece. Steele and Frost keyed Bakersfield's four-run first inning with back-to-back hits to start the game. Brett Prieto loaded the bases when he was hit on the foot by Arizmendi. Ross Hoffman's (1 for 5) infield single and Arizmendi's throwing error gave the Renegades a 2-0 lead one batter later. Josh Christensen made it 4-0 with a two-run single that plated Prieto and Hoffman.
Eric Schanz (5-7) suffered the loss for the Renegades allowing eight runs on 11 hits, two walks and one hit batter while striking out one. The Dons scored six more runs off three Bakersfield pitchers over the final three innings to advance in the playoffs.
