SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College (20-6-1, 7-3-1 OEC) won its fifth game in a row and completed a three-game sweep of Irvine Valley College (18-9, 3-8 OEC) with a 9-1 win in Orange Empire Conference baseball action, Thursday. Jose Chavez, who was 2 for 4 at the plate, broke a 1-1 tie with his second hit of the game an RBI-single to center in the sixth inning.
Arizmendi
Daniel Arizmendi (4-1) won the pitching dual against Irvine Valley's Cyrus Sarraf allowing just one run on eight hits in 7-1/3 innings of work. The sophomore lefthander struckout three and walked two against the Lasers. Anthony Slama retired the final five outs of the game to pick up his fourth save of the year. He struckout three of the batters he faced.

Sarraf (5-4), who suffered his second loss against the Dons, was nearly as effective giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits. He struckout three, walked two and hit four batters.

Rick Taloa gave Santa Ana a 3-1 advantage in the seventh when he singled to center scoring Jimmy Waninger who tripled to lead off the inning.

The Dons broke the game open in the eighth roughing up Lasers' reliever Pat  McMaster for six runs. The big blow was a two-out grand slam by pinch hitter Tyler Greer. Wes Pascolla closed out the scoring with a two-run home run to make the final, 9-1.

Eight of the nine Dons' starters collected at least one hit including four with two hits apiece. Santa Ana moved to within a half game of OEC-leading Cypress College who lost at Saddleback College, 11-7, on Thursday.
