Canedo, Vasquez Lead SAC To Golden West Sweep
SANTA ANA, CA - Freshman pitcher Paul Canedo took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and Jacob Vasquez went 4 for 4 at the plate as third-ranked Santa Ana College (18-6-1, 5-3-1 OEC) completed a three-game sweep of Golden West College (13-11, 2-7 OEC) with a 7-1 win, Saturday.

Canedo, who improved to 6-1, settled for a complete-game three hitter while striking out four and walking just one. The former Diamond Bar High School-product retired 14 straight Rustlers from the third inning on until Golden West's Arnie Iribarren broke up Canedo's no-hit bid with a double off the right-center field fence. Golden West scored its only run of the game in the eighth on Johnny Jimenez's RBI-single to center that scored Iribarren.
The Dons built a 4-0 lead after three innings off of Rustlers' starter Justin Sincock (3-3) who suffered the loss.
Santa Ana scored once in the first on Vasquez's first of four hits, a home run, and made it 2-0 in the second on an RBI-double by Matt Morris that drove in Mike Forman from second. Rick Taloa gave the Dons a 4-0 with a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left-center. It was Taloa's seventh home run in eight games and 11th on the year.
Santa Ana added two more runs in the seventh on Jimmy Waninger's sacrifice fly and Vasquez's four hit a double. Vasquez finished the game 4 for 4 with 2 RBI while Morris was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Jose Chavez also had two hits for the Dons who have won three in a row.
Santa Ana outscored Golden West, 16-3, in its three meeting with the Rustlers.
