Third-Ranked Santa Ana Ends Skid Against Cerritos

SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College snapped its recent to game losing skid with a 13-4 win over visiting Cerritos College in non-conference baseball action, Friday. The Dons jumped out to an 8-1 lead after three innings with two runs in the first and six in the third to improve to 16-6-1 overall.

Santa Ana used four hits, two walks and an error to score six times in the third inning off Falcon-starter Eric Retana (0-3) who suffered the loss. Brett Siegmund and Wes Pascolla each collected two-run singles in the stanza before Mike Forman capped the Dons' rally with an opposite-field, two-run home run. Pascolla (2 for 3, 2 RBI) and Forman (2 for 4, 2 RBI) each finished with two hits along with Rick Taloa (2 for 5, 1 RBI) who hit a home run in his third consecutive game. Santa Ana's Jimmy Waninger led all hitters with his 4 for 5 performance at the plate, all singles.

The Dons' freshman lefthander Paul Canedo improved to 5-1 after giving up four runs on six hits, two walks and two hit batters in 6.1 innings of work.  Canedo also struck out seven. Anthony Slama gave up just two hits and struck out one while recording the final eight outs.

Gabe Santos drove in three of the Falcons' four runs with his 3 for 4 performance at the plate. Santos had an RBI-single in the second, a two-run home run to left field in the sixth and a single in the eighth. Dave Balandran drove in Cerritos' other run with a single in the seventh.

The Falcons' Retana fell to 0-3 after giving up eight runs on five hits and four walks in his brief three-inning stint.
