Santa Ana Batters Southwestern, 14-5

SANTA ANA, CA - Wes Pascolla and Jose Chavez each collected three hits apiece as Santa Ana College ( 15-4-1 ) battered Southwestern College (9-6), 14-5, in non-conference baseball action Wednesday. The Dons pounded out 19 hit off of six Jaguar pitches and used 2 wild pitches, 2 pass balls and 4 hit batters in racking up its 14 runs.

Santa Ana broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the third inning and added one in the sixth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eight to pull away from the Jaguars.

Pascolla was 3 for 5 at the plate with a double and and RBI while Chavez finished 3 for 4 with two RBI. Both players had RBI hits in Santa Ana 's six-run third inning. Pascolla and Chavez were two of six Dons to collect two or more hits in the game. Jimmy Waninger (2 for 4, 1 RBI), Jacob Vasquez (2 for 4, 1 RBI), Ben Linn (2 for 2, 2 RBI) and Matt Morris (2 for 4, 1 RBI) each finished with two hits apiece. Morris scored three runs while Rick Taloa drove in three with a two run home run in the sixth inning and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Garret Rieck (4-1) won his fourth game of the season giving up just three runs (two earned) on eight hits and a balk over seven innings. The lefthander struck out five and walked two. Ryan Trainor finished the game for the Dons allowing two earned runs on five hits in two innings of work. He struck out one.

Southwestern had five players finish with multiple hit games led by Carlos Ibarra who was 3 for 5 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Mike Crook fell to 1-2 on the year after allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and three walks in four-and-a-third innings on the mound. He struck out one.
