Santa Ana Routs Sacramento City, 15-3

SANTA ANA, CA - Paul Canedo and Dana Schaeffer combined on a five-hitter as fifth-ranked Santa Ana College knocked off top-ranked Sacramento City College, 15-3, in the second game of a three-game series that concludes on Saturday, February 26 at noon. The Dons pounded out 18 eights and took advantage of four Panther miscues to beat Collegiate Baseball newspaper's preseason favorite to win the 2005 California Community College state baseball title in baseball action, Friday. It was the Dons' second win over the Panthers in as many days. On Thursday, Santa Ana held off Sacramento City, 11-8, in the series' opener.

Santa Ana (9-0) jumped out to a 9-1 lead after two innings and never looked back as it remained unbeaten. The Dons knocked out Panther starter Chris Rualinaitis after just one inning of work as the sophomore gave up nine runs (six earned), seven hits and a walk. Raulinaitis was the victim of two Panther errors.

It was a different story for Santa Ana's Canedo who gave up three earned runs in the first three innings before settling down to retire 14 of the final 15 batters he faced. The freshman lefthander gave up four hits, struck out four and walked three while improving to 2-0. Schaeffer was equally effective allowing just one hit and striking out one in his two innings of service.

Offensively, Santa Ana was led by Jimmy Waninger and Jose Chavez who each finished with three hits against the Panthers. Waninger, who was 3 for 5 with two RBI, also scored three times while Chavez finished 3 for 4 at the plate and scored twice.

Ten different batters collected hits for the Dons including six with two or more.

Sacramento City (5-3) had five batters with one hit apiece.
