Four Dons Named Southern California All-American
SANTA ANA, CA - Following the Santa Ana College baseball team's trip to the 2009 California Community College Baseball Finals four Dons were named to the 2009 Southern California All-American Team with two Dons being named to the 2009 All-Southern California Team.
Headlining the list was Jake Eccles who received the Big Stick Award following his break-out performance at the plate this season. Eccles finished the year batting .377 (72-for-191) with 19 home runs and 65 RBI. The sophomore slugger also had 14 doubles and four triples.
Joining Eccles on the All-American list was pitcher Christian Meza, third baseman Matt Hart and outfielder Marcus Piazzisi. Pitcher Nick Capito and designated hitter Stephen Gonzalez were named to the All-Southern California Team.
Meza's selection comes after he was named the Orange Empire Conference Pitcher of the Year. The south-paw pitcher finished the season 11-1 with a 3.49 ERA while tying teammate Brian Peacock with a team-high 93 strikeouts.
Hart led the Dons with a .412 batting average, 82 hits and 14 stolen bases while Piazzisi finished the season with a .376 batting average and a team-high 18 doubles.
Capito was the work-horse of the Dons pitching staff logging 103.1 innings with a 12-2 record. The sophomore lefty had a 2.70 ERA while holding opponents to a .257 batting average. Gonzalez rounds out the list as he finished the season with a .281 batting average with six home runs and 33 RBI. |
