Brian Peacock Dominant in Complete Game Shut Out

SAN MARCOS, CA - Brian Peacock improved to 2-0 in the postseason as he pitched a complete game 6-0 shut out with 12 strikeouts against Long Beach City College (29-17) in the Dons first game of the Super Regional Playoffs. The Dons (35-11) will now face Palomar College at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Peacock opened the game retiring the first eight batters he faced with five strikeouts including striking out the side in the second inning. Offensively, the Dons opened their scoring in the third inning.

TJ Yasuhara started the rally with a one-out single to left field followed by a single through the right side by Marcus Piazzisi. Yasuhara advanced to third on a wild pitch and later scored when Matt Hart reached on an error.

Derek Eligio continued the inning as he beat out the throw on an attempt on a double play to reach on a fielder's choice, advancing Piazzisi to third. Both Piazzisi and Eligio scored when James Davis hit a two-run single through the middle of the infield to put the Dons up 3-0.

Jake Eccles followed with a single through the middle of the infield before Chris Miller put the Dons up 4-0 with a RBI-single scoring Davis.

The Dons extended their lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning when Hart led the inning off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a sacrifice fly by Eligio. Eccles singled Hart in from third later in the inning to score the run.

Peacock continued to cruise as he faced the minimum batters five innings in a row. After allowing a two-out single to Randy Guite in the fifth, Peacock picked Guite off at first base to end the inning.

Matt Homstad led the sixth inning off for the Vikings with a bunt single but was out on the next play when Michael Schultz hit into a 1-6-3 double play, started by Peacock.

The Dons scored their final run in the eighth inning when Chris Miller led the inning off with a double off the leftfield wall. He later scored when Julian Duran hit a RBI-double to right-centerfield to put SAC up 6-0.

The Vikings got their first extra-base hit of the game in the ninth inning when Homstad hit a lead-off double that hit the right field line. He would advance to third on a fly-out by Schultz but was left stranded as Peacock ended the game with a strikeout and a fly-out to centerfield.

Homstad was the lone highlight for the Vikings as he finished the game 3-for-3 with the Vikings only extra-base hit of the game. He was also the only Viking that Peacock did not strike out and was the only base runner to make it passed first base..

The Dons advance in the winner's bracket following the win and will next face Palomar College who defeated Mt. San Antonio College 5-0 in the first game. Long Beach moves into the loser's bracket and will face Mt. SAC.

The winner of the Dons/Palomar game will advance to the finals on Sunday and the loser will face the winner of the Long Beach/Mt. SAC game at 4:00 p.m.

NEXT: Santa Ana at Palomar, Saturday, May 16 at 12:00 p.m.
