Dons Continue to Roll; Beat Rio Hondo College 13-0
SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team started the game with three-straight walks setting up Derek Eligio for the grand slam home run sparking the Dons 13-0 shutout victory over Rio Hondo College. The win improves the Dons to 9-2 on the season while Rio Hondo College falls to 2-6.
Marcus Piazzisi and Matt Hart walked on eight straight pitches followed by Chris Miller who drew a walk on a full count. Derek Eligio followed with his second home run of the season, first grand slam, to put SAC up 4-0.
James Davis reached in the next at-bat after being hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Julian Duran to put the Dons up 5-0 in the first frame.
Miller hit a two RBI-single in the bottom of the second scoring Piazzisi and Hart to extend the Dons lead to 7-0. Jake Eccles reached on an error later in the inning allowing Eligio to score to make the score 8-0.
After a scoreless third, James Davis hit a two-run home run in the fourth and Duran scored later in the inning on a RBI-double by Cory Goodchild making the score 11-0.
The Dons final two runs came in the sixth inning when Daniel Voorheis reached on a throwing error. Nick Benvenuto scored from second and Brian Boles was able to score when Voorheis got caught in a rundown between second and third.
Christian Meza improved to 2-0 after scattering two hits over six innings with six strikeouts and only three walks. Daniel Fenwick, Nicholas Perez and Michael Steele each worked one inning to preserve the Dons shutout.
