Eccles Blasts Two Home Runs in Dons 18-5 Win

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team defeated visiting Victor Valley College 18-5 in the second game of the Casey Stengel Tournament. The win improves the Dons to 7-2 while Victor Valley falls to 5-6.

Chris Miller, who walked in the first inning, scored the first run of the game for SAC on a RBI-single Derek Eligio for the Dons only run in the first inning. SAC added six more runs in the second, highlighted by a solo home run by Jake Eccles and a three-run home run by Eligio.

Eccles hit his second home run of the game in his next at-bat in the third inning putting the Dons up 8-0. James Davis extended the Dons lead to 11-0 in the fourth inning with a two-run home run after Eligio singled in Matt Hart.

Cory Goodchild led the fifth inning off with a solo home run. Marcus Piazzisi followed with a triple off the right field fence; he later scored on a RBI-double by Chris Miller. Miller scored to put the Dons 13-0 on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Hardman.

Hart drove in the Dons two runs in the sixth inning when Thad Yasuhara and Brian Boles scored on his single to leftfield. Victory Valley broke the 16-0 tie in the seventh with a solo home run.

The Dons final two runs came on a two RBI-double by Kyle Ammons scoring Nick Benvenuto and Yasuhara. Victor Valley added three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to cap off the scoring at 18-5.

Nick Capito improved to 2-0 on the season as he pitched six shutout innings scattering three hits with one walk and six strikeouts. He retired the Victor Valley lineup in order each of the first three innings.
