Mertins Throws One-Hitter in 1-0 Win Over LA Harbor

SANTA ANA, CA - Kyle Mertins (El Dorado HS) pitched a complete game, one-hitter for the Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team in its 1-0 victory over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College in the final game of the Casey Stengel Tournament.

The Dons scored their only run in the fourth inning when Matt Allen (Orange HS) led the inning off with a double to center field. Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) followed with an RBI single to left field, scored Allen from second base.

One run was all the support that Mertins needed as he pitched eight innings without allowing a hit. The only hit for Harbor came on a lead-off single up the middle of the infield in the top of the ninth inning.

Mertins finished the game with six strikeouts and only one walk. He allowed only three base runners the entire game to pick up his first win of the season. SAC finished off the tournament scoring 47 runs in three games despite scoring only one run on Saturday.
