Boyer Leads Santa Ana to 12-2 Victory over Chaffey
SANTA ANA, CA - First baseman Caleb Boyer (Temecula Valley HS) finished 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Santa Ana College (SAC) to a 12-2 victory over visiting Chaffey College in a non-conference game.
After the Panthers (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Dons (2-1) tied the game in the bottom of the second when Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) drove in designated hitter Kyle Hardman (Mission Viejo HS) from second base.
Santa Ana scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead and later added five runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Boyer's three-run blast over the fence in left-center field. Shortstop Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) singled earlier in the fifth to score Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS).
Boyer singled in the sixth inning to score Rihn from third base and Derek Eligio (Esperanza HS) doubled to left field in the eighth inning scoring Bryan Patterson (Hilo HS) for the Dons final run. Chaffey scored one run in the ninth to make it a 12-2 final.
Hardman finished 2-for-2 with a walk for SAC, while Eligio went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Ramses Cardenas (Bellflower HS) pitched five innings in relief to earn the win for the Dons. Steven Rayburn recorded the loss for the Panthers.
