Santa Ana Gets Upset by #15 LA Harbor College
SANTA ANA, CA -
Santa Ana College (SAC) lost its first game of the double elimination Super Regional playoff series to #15 Los Angeles Harbor College (LAH) 5-6.
The Seahawks came out and scored early on starting pitcher Yuichiro Fujiwara when lead-off batter Marcus Cogman reached first base on a walk. After a single by Alex Chavez advanced Cogman to third, he scored when Chris Valencia reached on a fielding error.
The Dons answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning after Andy Navarrette reached on a single to right field. The next batter was Nick Tanos who hit a two-run home run to left field to put SAC up 2-1. In the next at-bat, Mario Ramirez hit a solo home run to extend the Dons' lead to 3-1.
LAH cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning when Juan Dorado reached on a throwing error and later scored on a Cogman single. The Dons extended their lead back to two runs in the bottom half of the inning when Crispin Tarango scored on a Casey Rihn double after reaching on an error.
The Seahawks took the lead back in the top of the fourth inning when Stephen Turner reached on a single to center field followed by a double by Sam Mercado. Steve Carrillo then reached on an error scoring both Mercado and Turner. Carrillo later scored on a single to center field by Nick Laico.
The Dons immediately tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Travis Leverson hit a triple to right center and later scored when Navarrette grounded out to second base.
LAH scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning when Chris Valencia led the inning off with a double followed by an RBI single by Turner. The Seahawks held off two late inning charges by the Dons to hold on to the lead and advance.
The Dons' loss sends SAC to Fullerton College to face Golden West College who lost the early game to Cypress College. L.A. Harbor will take on Cypress for a chance to make it to the final pairing on Sunday.
