Santa Ana Holds on to Defeat Saddleback 6-3

SANTA ANA, CA - Santa Ana College (SAC) ended its two-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over visiting Saddleback College (SADD) in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game.

SADD scored first in the top of the first inning when leadoff batter Shevis Shima reached on an infield single and later scored when Chris Auten singled to left field.

The Dons answered in the bottom half of the first inning. Travis Leverson Chaparral HS) led the game off with a walk followed by a single by Andy Navarrette (Mater Dei HS). Nick Tanos (Cypress HS) followed with a RBI single scoring Leverson then Mario Ramirez (Brea Olinda HS) reached on an error allowing Navarrette to score putting the Dons up 2-1.

The Dons extended their lead to 3-1 in the second inning when Daniel Voorheis (Cypress HS) reached on an error and later scored on a fielder's choice by Leverson.

Chris Brehm (Murrieta Valley HS) put the Dons up 4-1 after reaching on a single up the middle of the infield and later scoring on a single by Leverson.

SAC scored its final two runs in the sixth inning when Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) and Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) hit back-to-back solo home runs. Tarango's home run extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 27 games with the home run.

The Gauchos scored two more runs in the top of the ninth inning but were unable to complete the comeback as the Dons went on to win 6-3. Daniel Fenwick (Servite HS) pitched eight innings to remain undefeated at 9-0 on the season. He scattered four hits while allowing two runs and striking out three batters.
