Santa Ana Commits Four Errors; Lose 5-2 to Cypress
SANTA ANA, CA -
Santa Ana College (SAC) has now lost three of its last four Orange Empire Conference baseball games after a 5-2 loss to visiting Cypress College (CYP). The Dons committed four errors in the game.
Cypress scored first when lead-off batter Bryan Resnick hit a double to right field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Laird. The Chargers scored three more runs in the second inning, all unearned as the Dons committed two of their four errors in the inning.
Chargers' starting pitcher Alex Curry had his bid at a no-hitter broken up by Manny Caceres (Santa Ana Valley HS) in the bottom of the sixth, however the Dons were unable to capitalize on the hit.
SAC scored its first run in the seventh inning, cutting the lead to 4-1 when Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) hit a double to center field and later scored when Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) reached on a single. Tarango's hit extended his hitting streak to 26 games on the season.
The Dons cut the lead to 4-2 when Manny Caceres hit a solo home run in the eighth inning but the Chargers answered right back with a solo home run by Michael Nesbitt. SAC threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning but were unable to score any runs despite loading the bases.
Yuichiro Fujiwara (Japan Aviation Academy) allowed four runs, one earned, and six hits in seven innings pitched while suffering the loss for the Dons.
